This summer, Glensheen is proud to unveil its newest special exhibition, Crafting a Gilded Estate, opening to the public on June 26, 2026. In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, the exhibition celebrates the enduring artistry, craftsmanship, and skilled trades that have shaped our nation for generations.

Crafting a Gilded Estate explores the remarkable craftsmanship found throughout Glensheen’s permanent collection while connecting it to the vibrant community of artisans continuing these traditions today. The exhibition features historic objects from the era of Chester and Clara Congdon alongside contemporary works created by local makers, highlighting the timeless skills that transform raw materials into objects of beauty and function.

Featured local partners include Duluth Fiber Guild, Duluth Pottery, Lake Superior Art Glass, and Forging Community. Through their work in textile arts, pottery, glassblowing, and blacksmithing, these organizations preserve and share traditional craft techniques, ensuring these valuable skills continue to be passed on to future generations.
