Gardens & Grounds
Step onto the grounds at Glensheen and discover 12 acres of beautifully preserved gardens, woodlands, and shoreline designed to inspire. Wander the steps through the vegetable gardens, play a round of tennis on our clay tennis court, stroll through wooded paths or along Lake Superior shorelines, and admire the marble fountain and pruned bushes of the Formal Garden. During your visit, enjoy a picnic lunch on the grounds at our various picnic tables or relax in a lounge chair along the shore and by our fire pit overlooking Tischer Creek and the iconic Stone Arch Bridge.
About the Gardens
At Glensheen, our head gardener Emily Ford takes care of 56 garden beds, including many annual and signature flowers like peonies, dahlias, and roses. In 2022, our formal garden was reconstructed to replicate how it would have looked originally in 1908.
Along the Gardener's Cottage are the vegetable gardens, where we grow a wide variety of produce including apples, pears, cherries, rhubarb, tomatoes, onions, carrots, garlic, and much more. Both the gooseberries and currants grown at Glensheen are original plantings. Every year, a majority of our produce is donated on a weekly basis throughout peak produce season at CHUM and Union Gospel Mission. We are excited to continue partnering with these organizations to help the community.
