The Classic and Full Mansion Tour offers a self-guided visit through the mansion, where architecture, art, and personal history come together in one of the most well-preserved historic house museums. Built in 1908, as you move room by room, you will encounter original furnishings, handcrafted details, and works of art that reflect the Congdon family’s values, interests, and daily life. From the iconic Breakfast Room to the home’s beautifully designed living spaces, each area reveals a deeper story of artistry, innovation, and family.
Start at the Carriage House, where your tour introduction begins, along with access to our Museum Shop, the perfect stop for unique hand-curated local items and souvenirs. Follow your way to the front of the Mansion where you'll explore room by room through the first floor, second floor, and lower level.
Your visit continues outdoors with full access to Glensheen’s 12-acre estate. Wander through formal gardens and babbling creeks, follow tree-lined paths, and take in the breathtaking views of Lake Superior's shoreline along the Pier and Boathouse.
Together, the house and grounds create an experience that encourages both curiosity and reflection, connecting interior spaces with the surrounding landscape Chester and Clara so carefully envisioned.
Whether you are drawn by history, architecture, or the beauty of the lakeside setting, the Classic and Full Mansion Tour Admission invites you to experience Glensheen as it was meant to be enjoyed, both inside and out. It's no wonder Glensheen is Minnesota's most visited Historic House Museum!
